Biocat is the cluster organization that coordinates and promotes the biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology sector in the BioRegion of Catalonia. Our mission is to dynamize all the stakeholders in this area to create an environment with a strong research system, active transfer of knowledge and an entrepreneurial business fabric that can become a driving force for the country’s economy and contribute to the wellbeing of society as a whole. Created in 2006 at the behest of the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council, Biocat is a foundation that brings together representatives from all areas of the biomedicine and biotechnology sector: administration, universities, research centres, companies and support bodies.
Biocat (the BioRegion of Catalonia) is based on a community of more than 1.000 different organizations, including 481 companies (working in biotech, pharma, medical technologies and sector services), more than 440 research groups and 80 research centres, 57 technology facilities and scientific services, 28 support entities, 19 science or technology parks, 15 hospitals, 12 universities and 9 large technology facilities (as Alba-Cells Synchrotron, Barcelona Supercomputing Centre or the National Centre for Genomic Analysis).
