Lyonbiopôle is a World-Class Bio Cluster located in the Rhone-Alpes Region (Lyon-Grenoble area), France. As a Centre of Excellence for vaccines and diagnostics, it focuses on the fight against infectious diseases, immune disorders and cancers. In 2011, it gathered 110 members, from which 4 world-class leaders as Becton Dickinson (BD), bioMérieux, Merial and Sanofi-Pasteur, 88 SMBs and medium-size companies and 18 research centers including 3 Hospital University Centres of Rhône-Alpes. Lyonbiopôle is designed as a “factory” for producing public and private multi-partner R&D projects. Since 2005, it has accredited 110 multi-partner R&D projects for a total € 537 million of which € 220 million have been obtained from the French State, local authorities, the European Community and OSEO. Lyonbiopôle also supports companies, in particular SMBs, in their activity development: networking, identifying strategic partners, gaining access to public and private funding, internationalization and business development. Finally, the cluster provides access to project hosting facilities and shared technological platforms such as Lyonbiopole’s Infectious Diseases Centre, which opened on April 1st, 2009.
